What our trainees do
Let our latest trainees show you some of the amazing things they do on their journey to GROW into future leaders with the Stora Enso Global Trainee Programme.

All of us trainees have the opportunity to go on a 3-month International Assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to see the company from a different aspect, and preferably from a very different view that we have been used in our regular work.

We have all done it or at least heard from it, Stora Enso’s annual employee survey, Your Voice.

Being one of the new GROW trainees I feel that we and actually all new employees are like young trees that need to grow their roots at Stora Enso before we can reach for the top and become mighty big and strong. Let me explain to you a bit later why I feel this way and first of all introduce myself.

This week it was again my turn to write a blog post. I knew the deadline already last year, but still I didn’t start writing until the night before. Why? Well, because I’m that kind of a person who leaves things to the last minute. It’s like I enjoy the stress and therefore always find myself in these situations. That’s how I am. Or am I? Have I only decided that I’m a person who leaves things to the last minute, that I’m not a morning person… and that I’m a really bad singer?

They say it takes a while to settle in a new country, and only after our skiing cup last weekend, did I truly start to feel at home at Ybbs Mill. Among personal cups, we had a race against all Central European mills in the Wood Products division, and Ybbs won!

This summer, I had a great opportunity to work at the corrugated Poland packaging business on the GROW international assignment. Being in a new environment provokes reflections on what is great in the work culture here and on what is good in the home unit. Luckily, as life is not only about work, a great source of inspiration for me this summer was the Euro 2016 football tournament finally being in a country that participates in the final cup (one year Finland, one year). So I combined thoughts about common characteristics of business life and the Polish football team!

Surely and righteously the above text sounds like gobbledygook to you. Why blog about children's beer and elevators then? Keep on reading and I hope you will understand. This is my compressed story of 368 days in the economic hub of Europe – Welcome to Düsseldorf!

Where am I now? This question was lingering in my mind all the way when I was on my flight back to China after such an amazing three-week Sustainability Module, not to mention the super fantastic Finnish Vappu celebration afterwards. Sure, this is not a GPS location lost worry on the plane, but when I was sitting there, quietly in the dimly lit cabin, closing my eyes, looking back at all those beautiful GROW trainee memories in the past 8 months, I realised that all the official group modules were over! I suddenly felt a little bit lost and also scared about the continuous GROW journey.

Hello everybody, this time I want to share with you a great experience that I have had this week! I just came back to Stockholm after having spent three days in Paris, engaging in interesting meetings with potential clients, educative seminars about packaging innovation and technology and of course meeting the ever-so-friendly colleagues at Stora Enso.
